How the workforce shift is changing the cleaning industry
The pandemic caused a major disruption in America’s work force, also referred to as The Great Resignation. In 2021, more than 45 million workers quit their jobs. Many of whom were in search of an improved work/life balance and flexibility, increased compensation, and a strong company culture.
A closer look at what has happened to the labor force can be better described as “The Great Reshuffle” because hiring rates have outpaced quit rates since November 2020. So, many workers are quitting their jobs, but many are getting re-hired elsewhere. With that said, this means that many industries have been impacted negatively. What does it mean for those industries and what does it mean for our overall well-being as consumers?
Impacted Industries
The most impacted industries by this reshuffling of workers are the food service and hospitality industries. These are traditionally jobs that require in-person attendance and have lower wages so, naturally, these industries would have a major impact. Remote work by many industries has changed the work game dramatically also.
Another industry impacted by the pandemic is healthcare. Life-threatened and over worked employees saved lives and made it safely through the brunt of the pandemic. Many have had breakdowns physically and mentally and have made the decision to shift their careers in other directions. While they can’t be blamed one bit for this, it has opened the industry up which means less staff and less assistance when it is needed.
Results
Because of these gaps in industry work force, this has not only affected consumers’ patience it can have an effect on our safety and overall well-being. How and why? Because less staff means nothing, but the essential work is getting done. Janitorial and cleaning of these industries may be put in jeopardy. So, what can these industries do to keep everyone safe and keep their businesses clean?
This is where cleaning manufacturing companies come into play. Many companies have been developing easier and faster ways to clean so that while cleaning remains essential to companies, it lessens the time it takes to get the job done. Other companies have been producing these products for years and now it’s time they are recognized.
